SOMQG began with 12 attendees to our first meeting, which was held in March, 2013.
The Southern Oregon Modern Quilt Guild meets the 3rd Saturday of every month at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 44 North 2nd Street, Ashland, Oregon.
Meetings have a “soft” start at 9:00 am and last until 1:00 pm, with a free-sew “sew-cial” time first. There’s a short business meeting at 11:30, then a brown bag or hosted lunch and more “sew-cial” time.
We are a fun-loving group of dedicated quilters, of all levels of expertise. What we share is our interest in modern quilting, with an open forum sharing of ideas, tips and experience among members.
New quilters get to avail themselves of the huge combined experience of master quilters, and those who may have been used to more traditional ways of quilting are inspired and challenged to create quilts with a “Modern” aesthetic.
At the present time we have 19 paid members, who come mostly from the central parts of Northern California and Southern Oregon.
We welcome visitors, who may attend their first meeting free and then, for just $5 each meeting, avail themselves of sew-cial” time in our spacious venue and the wonderful camaraderie that comes with sewing together.
Memberships that begin in September are pro-rated.
Dues are $25 per year. Since SOMQG is a member of The MQG, our paid members become members of that too, and can avail themselves of all the benefits available through the MQG.
SOMQG’s purpose is to:
- Develop and encourage the art of modern quilting
- Encourage new quilters and other fiber artists interested in non-traditional and non-art fiber projects.
- Offer educational opportunities though classes, workshops and sharing of information.
- Support and provide opportunity for “charity” or other works that provide back to the community through the use of modern quilting skills.
Our community outreach project is making large quilted tote bags for children in the Foster Care Program.
Hope you can join us!
